Chartered in 2003, our mission is to provide funding for the educational support of youth involved in the humanities, sciences, music and the arts in the greater West Valley area of Santa Clara County; to support international projects in coordination with the efforts and purposes of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International; and for other publicly beneficial projects as the trustees of the charitable foundation may determine appropriate.
Members of our club have traveled to India to fight polio, South America to help burn victims and surgeries for those born with cleft lip and cleft palate, Mississippi to rebuild houses devastated by the hurricanes, hiked the Himalayas to help an orphanage, walked in high heels to support sexual assault awareness and we provide warm clothing and food for those in need. We have given scholarships to students interested in studying architecture, art, science and drama, raised funds for the Los Gatos Theatre Improvement Project and the Los Gatos Education Fund. Our major Club Project is Lighting for Literacy which is featured below. We welcome you to explore what we have to offer and invite you to join us for Breakfast on Wednesday mornings at 7:30 a.m. to meet us and learn more about what we do. If you have an interest in serving your community and having an impact for change - we're here to help!
These sustainable, renewable lighting systems then enable students in underserved countries to advance their education while giving students here the opportunity to experience "service above self."
Emphasizing Science, Sustainability and Service Above Self, Lighting for Literacy's ultimate goal is to empower our next generation of humanitarians to make the world a better place.
LG Morning Rotary created and drives this important program which is growing organically in both local communities served by Rotary Clubs and throughout the World where electric lighting has not been available.
